Carson region residents have two opportunities to hear local professional musicians in a rarely heard and colorful trio combination: clarinet, viola, and piano played by Trio Brio. The timbre of a woodwind, and keyboard, and string instrument together in a chamber setting is unlike any other.

Trio Brio will play music of the classical, romantic, and modern era for these two performances: 5 p.m. Saturday at Corpus Catholic Church, Carson City; and 7:30 p.m. June 19 at Copeland Cultural Arts Center, Minden. Trio Brio consists of David Brock on piano; Pat Crane on viola; Darrell Moore on clarinet

Trio Brio opens the evenings with W. A. Mozart's Trio in E-flat major, K. 498, also known as "The Bowling Alley Trio" for it's nine-note opening theme.

Violist Pat Crane will play a unique solo piece by Max Reger, Suite #1 for Viola, Op. 131d, #1. This beautiful, touching work is both Romantic and Baroque in compositional structure.

Also on the program is Trio Brio's presentation of two of Max Bruch's "Eight Pieces" Collection.

In celebration of the 200th birthday of Frederic Chopin (1810-1849), special guest pianist Maureen Leonard will present three works composed by Chopin: Etude in A-flat Major Op.25, No1; Nocturne in E Minor Op.72, No1; and the Waltz (Valse) in E Minor (Posthumous).

The concert concludes with the engaging and virtuosic, Trio pour Clarinette, Alto et Piano published in 1990 by Jean Françaix (1912-1997). This five-movement work is sometimes serene, sometimes animated, sometimes jazzy, sometimes frenetic, and sometimes just humorous.

Tickets for each concert are $35 front row, $20 general, and $5 children with paid adult. Advance tickets are available at www.cvartscouncil.com, call 775-782-8207 or at the Corpus Christi church office from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday-Friday.
