Someone vandalized "Guimont for Sheriff" signs Tuesday night on the northwest end of town, either cutting them with a box cutter or blackening the teeth on the picture, according to a report filed with the Carson City Sheriff's Office on Wednesday morning.
About five signs in support of electing Deputy Bob Guimont sheriff, were damaged along a one-mile stretch of West College Parkway from the University Heights apartments to Northgate Lane. While most were shredded and torn from their backings, a large Guimont sign in front of Bully's Sport Bar had the teeth blackened with marker, according to a final tally gathered by Darrin Sloan, an off-duty sergeant working on Guimont's campaign. The initial report was made by Guimont at 8:49 a.m.
The cost of damage is estimated to be about $500, according to the report.
In the race for sheriff, two-term incumbent Kenny Furlong is being challenged for his seat by Guimont and Capt. Bob White.
Early voting starts Saturday with the primary election being held June 8. The top two vote getters in the primary will face off in the general election in November.
