COLLEGE: WNC splits with second-place Salt Lake baseball

SALT LAKE CITY - The Scenic West Athletic Conference powerhouses - No. 14 Western Nevada and No. 1 Salt Lake - met for the first time on Friday.

The result was a split of the SWAC doubleheader. WNC won the opener 5-3 thanks to six strong innings by Anthony Consiglio, while Salt Lake took the nightcap 10-1 on a 1-hitter by Tyson Memmot. The loss snapped an 18-game WNC win streak.

WNC is still in first place in the SWAC at 17-1, while SLCC is 16-2.

The Bruins outhit Western Nevada 10-7 in the opener, but fell 5-3 to take their second loss in conference play.

Sean Potkay went 2-for-4 and Chris Woolley went 1-for-3. WNC left eight runners on base.

Consiglio left the game with runners on first and second. Reliever Chris Garrison got the next hitter to hit into a double play and got the last out on a pop up.

Potkay got WNC's only hit in the second game, ripping an RBI triple to drive in Connor Eppard, who reached on an error.
