Cobb's stance on Muslim rage dishonest

Without treading on the fragility of religion and the reactionary cultures of theocratic states, I must protest Ty Cobb's commentary, "In a rage over Muslim rage," as dishonest.

A few times, Cobb cites the Jewish theocracy of Israel as a target of Muslim rage and anger. He conveniently leaves out such words as "warranted," "justified" and "retaliatory." The occupation and subjugation of millions of Palestinians by Israel, the Israeli murder of Palestinian women and children, and not a few Americans as well, is sufficient cause for secular rage, not to mention Judeo-Christian and Muslim rage.

Should America's Congress acknowledge Israel's perpetual brutality as evidenced by the Gaza invasion of 2008 and Israel's subsequent conviction of war crimes and crimes against humanity during the invasion, Muslims of the world would view America differently.

America's unquestioning and blind support of Israel is one clear and honest reason why Middle Eastern Islamic theocracies fault America. It's certain America would be looked upon differently if its stance on Israel were impartial. General Petraeus said so himself.

If Cobb were honest, he'd be in a rage about an American Congress which dehumanizes the Palestinians directly and indirectly by Israeli proxy, which doesn't understand America is harmed by its support of Israel, and doesn't see a Middle East that is under the gun of a Jewish nuclear bomb.

The world knows this, but somehow, it is ignored by our elected representatives. And it is dishonest of Cobb not to recognize it.

Stop cutting education now, for our future

To the Lyon County School Board:

Do you have a dream? Do you want a new car, a few extra days of vacation, a nicer spouse, 2.5 kids and the fanciest mansion money can buy?

My name is Monica, and at 18 years old, I have a dream too.

I dream that when I am 20, I will not be homeless. I dream that when I am 50, I will finally be able to eat something more than just Ramen and peanut butter. I dream that someday, perhaps when I am retired, I will have enough money saved to buy myself a small home and live there comfortably.

Sometimes I dream of other things. I dream of a world in which we launch another space shuttle and begin exploring scientific realms unknown. I dream of a world in which women are allowed to say "no," both to men and children. And, at my wildest, I dream of a world in which, when my 6-year-old sister asks, "Can you play?" I can finally set aside the chains of work and say, "Yes, I can."

Such a world can exist. My generation and I, if given the chance, will build it. But this will never happen if we are too poor to go to college. If America is to recover, and if your children are to have a future, you must stop the cuts to education today.

Please give us a future.

Silver State fills a need

in community

Silver State Charter School fills a need in this community. Instead of hindering the expansion of it, the businesses and people should be helping them to educate our children. The people of Nevada are having a hard time coming to terms with the subject of education.

This is one more case of not giving a damn. They would rather hide their heads in the sand while the rest of the world passes us by.
