The Hon. D. A. Moriarty, late Assemblyman from Storey and framer of the opium bill is said upon good authority to be on the pipe and had the bill written for his personal good. A few days before the bill went into force he went to Arizona where he could smoke to his heart's content.

100 YEARS AGO

A Washoe Zephyr drifted down the canyons this morning to remind all that March had transferred her affections to April. The wind scattered awnings, startled several teams and made the sprinkling cart man hustle to the water wagon.

70 YEARS AGO

Perfect attendance records were announced at Carson schools for the quarter. Having gained that accomplishment in the 12th grade were Dane Bullentini, Lester Groth, Romy Levine, Eddie marriage, Robert O'Neill, Dan Priest, Homer Sasenbery, Roy Spencer, John Supera, Elizabeth Greene, Angelina Pierini and Frieda Warnken.

50 YEARS AGO

Nevada is a "gracious, romantic lady," according to Carson City Postmaster W. E. "Bill" Dunfield. In a talk before the Carson City Junior Chamber of Commerce. Dunfield noted the first post office was at the northwest corner of King and Curry Streets in a log cabin. The first stage driver's stop was located at the corner of Musser and Carson Streets.

20 YEARS AGO

A bill requiring candidates for public office to identify people giving more than $100 to campaigns clears an Assembly committee.

A bikini-clad Virgin Mary sparks controversy in Albuquerque, N.M.
