Greenhouse Garden Center owner David Ruf will present a free seminar at 10 a.m. today, "Let's Start the Garden - Planting Cool Season Crops."

April is the time to start planting cool season crops outdoors from seed, such as lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, onions and more. It is also time to start warm season vegetables indoors.

With our short growing season in Northern Nevada, find out all the tricks to a successful and abundant vegetable garden this season.

A seminar on "Selecting and Growing Roses in Northern Nevada" will be presented at 11 a.m. Sunday by Elona Lathrop, a rosarian at the garden center.

Reservations are not required for these seminars. Dress appropriately for outdoors.

Registration is being taken for a one-day workshop on growing grapes in Nevada's harsh climate, scheduled for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. May 7.

" Extreme Grape Growing - The Grapes of Wrath: Learn to Grow Interspecific Wine Grapes in Northern Nevada's Harsh Climate" will be taught by Rick Halbardier of Tahoe Ridge Winery and president of the Nevada Wine & Grape Growers Association.

Cost is $35. To register, call 800-783-1566. Class is limited to the first 20 people to sign up and pay.
