A Nevada Wonder: In Hawthorne recently an excursion train halted and just as fast, a half dozen gambling games were full blast. A green light-haired young man was playing, risking two bits a time. He lost five or six before putting down a $5 gold piece on the red and won. The dealer handed him two fives when the player said it was too much, he was only betting two bits (continued on Tuesday).

100 YEARS AGO

Farmers in Jake's Valley (near Ely) are losing cattle as the result of a peculiar phenomenon from last April. At that time there was a slight earthquake that opened a large crack in the earth. The greatest losses are from Captain O. Moorman, who has lost 28 cattle. Now they seek to have it fenced by the government.

70 YEARS AGO

Dr. Fred Anderson says that Carson contributions for operating sets and emergency kits for British and Greek relief have reached about $300. The drive is continuing.

50 YEARS AGO

Carson City Attorney Richard L. Waters Jr. was appointed by Gov. Grant Sawyer today as District Judge.

20 YEARS AGO

The Nevada Air Museum will have Hazel Hahn speak at their upcoming meeting. Hahn met Amelia Earhart and then entered the military as a W.A.S.P., flying many aircraft including the B-26 Marauder.

10 YEARS AGO

Neighbors oppose the expansion of the Carson Tahoe Championship speedway. The dirt and trash is so bad at times we can't see across the street, said one homeowner.
