1919 - 2011

 

Cornelis (Cory) Groenendal of Carson City passed away peacefully in his home April 8, 2011. He was 91 years of age. He was born Oct. 23, 1919, in DeHag, Holland.

 

Cory is proceeded in death by his wife Ruth Groenendal of Carson City, his parents, two brothers, daughter Joyce Bates and great-grandson Christopher Rosky both of Carson City.

 

Cory served in the Dutch Army during WWll then came to the United States in 1956. In 1973 he meet the love of his life, Ruth.

 

Cory enjoyed traveling around the country, square dancing and spending time with his family.

 

Cory worked for General Telephone and Verizon for 25 years as a switchman then retired and later moved to Carson City in 1999.

 

Among his survivors are his daughter Maria of Reno; sons Robert Swaisgood of California and Ronald Swaisgood of Washington; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and many niece's and nephew's.

 

Cory will be dearly missed.
