Community sports: Damonte Ranch wins boys, girls JV titles at Carson Invite

Damonte Ranch won both the JV boys and girls team titles at last weekend's Carson Invitational.

The Damonte JV boys finished with 128.5 points - eight points ahead of Carson. Dayton was third with 102.5. Douglas was fourth with 84. Damonte had

91 to win the girls' title. Douglas was second with 81, Carson third with 78 and Dayton was fourth with 61.

Anthony Estrada was third in the 100 (12.64) and 200 (25.93) for Carson. Dexter Cummings also had a good meet, taking second in the 110 high hurdles (19.08) and the 300 hurdles (46.54). Stefan Sobkiewicz won the 110 hurdles in 18.40 and was second in the long jump at 18-9. Connor Fallon was second in the triple jump at 36-3 and Kyle Sharp had a third in the pole vault at 9-feet. Andrew Cowan had a third in the 200.

Dayton was led by Tylor Bard, Joseph Law, Cody Yeater, Jaden Lynch and Jesse May.

Yeater won the high jump with an effort of 6-1, which would have been enough to place second in the varsity division. He also won the triple jump at 38-3 1/2.

Bard was second in the high jump at 5-10 and he won the long jump at 19-0 1/2. May won the shot put at 39-4 and was fourth in the discus at 104-11.

Law won the 1600 in 5:07.72 and was fourth in the 800 at 2:22.96. Lynch won the 3200 in 12:39.12.

The only individual winners for the Sierra Lutheran boys were Alex Borgman, who threw 119-8 to win the discus, and Jacob Medlock who won the 100 in 12.6.

Sean Jones had a second in the shot put for Douglas with a throw of 39-2.

Bailey Vidaurri was second in the 100 at 12.49. Zak Sherback was third in the 400 at 56.82 and Connor Holman was second in the 1600 at 5:08.87 with teammate Jeff Williams taking third at 5:09.06.

Douglas' Eunice Perez was the top performer, winning the 800 (2:48.94), 1600 (6:08.93) and 3200 events (13:58.38). Tamrah Torres won the 100 (14.48) and Sierra Montana won the discus (80-10).

Kayse Childers won the shot put (29-0) for Carson. Jessica Martel had a second in the shot and a third in the discus with marks of 28-feet and 67-11, respectively. Fiona McElhany won the pole vault at 6-6. Ashley Salcedo was second in the 3200 at 14:28.88. Haley Ridgely was second in the high jump at 4-2.

Abby Williams of Sierra Lutheran had a second place in the 800 at 3:11.44. Dayton's Maribel Ledezma won the high jump at 4-4. Karla Woods of Dayton was second in the discus at 77-5 while Ashley Vickers was second in the long jump at 13-10 1/2 and third in the triple jump at 29-5 3/4.

Beauchman, Garcia grab wins at Silver Oak

Milo Beauchman and Marc Garcia were the flight winners at Silver Oak's Sunday men's Club event.

Beauchman shot 66 to win Flight 1, while Wayne Graham was second with a 67. Chang Suh was third with a 69 and James Shabi was fourth with a 70.

Garcia had a net 57, 13 shots better than Gary Nitzberg. Dennis Prutch and Rich Torok tied for third with 72s.

Champions crowned

in four-man scramble

The team of Marc Prause, Brick Ludington, John Miller and Larry Lockwood took home first place in the four-man team scramble tournament held Sunday at Carson Valley Golf Course. The men's golf club champions shot a 60.

Three-strokes back was the team of Daryle Lewis, Joe Morrison, Ewald Burmeister and John Carey. They edged the team of Russ Coons, John Murray, Ben Artellan and John Guidicatti.

The teams of Bill Gibson and Dick Montoya and Dahl Rask and Fred Olesek tied for low net honors with 121s at Empire Ranch's Senior Men's Golf Club event played at Genoa Lakes.

Lew Dodgion and Verne Rosse tied for first in Flight B with Larry Hamman and Richard Schnaible. Both groups shot 126.

Montoya, Rich Gwinn, Skip Hempler and Hans Ehrlin won closest to the hole honors.

Rivera places third

at national meet

Brady Rivera went 4-1 recently in the 154-pound weight class at the NHSCA High School/Middle School National Tournament in Virginia Beach, Va.

Rivera, who competes for the Carson Bulldogs, went 4-1 during the event. He lost to eventual champion Nathan Schwab of New York 6-1 in the opening round, and then won four straight. He beat Nick McShea of Pennsylvania 5-4 in the third-place match.

Ricky McDonald, another Bulldog wrestler, finished fifth at 171 pounds.

Carson High's NIco Garcia also participated in the event.

Richard Stock enjoys

go-kart success

Richard Stock won the 16-lap Junior One main event go-kart race at Desert Park Raceway near Stead on April 10.

The 10-year-old Stock qualified at 45.317, the fastest time in the field.

The first heat didn't go well for Stock, but he rebounded in the second heat for a win when an accident tangled up a couple of his competitors.

In the 16- lap main, Conner Vancott took the lead followed by Stock, Turbo Sombatsiri, Isaac Wyett, Rualik Tuliva, and Jacob Brown. Sombatsiri got by Wyett quickly while Stock tailed Vancott patently, waiting for Vancott to make a mistake. Vancott quickly came on to lapped traffic through the S's, Vancott broke right and Stock broke left taking the inside line onto the main straight closing the door on Vancott and never looking back.

Stock is now making plans to travel to the first and second IKF regional races to be held at Shasta Kart Klub track near Redding, Calif., April 30 and May 1.

Big Dogs hold 1-point lead in Mosconi Division

Big Dogs has a 53-52 lead over Unintentional Defense in the Mosconi Division of the Carson City Chapter of the American Poolplayers Association. AltF4 is right behind with 51 points.

Jack Parish and Robert Haddix of Unintentional Defense are running 1-2 in the 6-7 tier with 49 and 37 points, respectively. Joshua Stewart of Alt F4 leads the 4-5 tier with 32 points, four ahead of Tadd Patchen of Rack Fink.

Josiah Toledo of Rack Fink leads the 2-3 tier with 34 points, nine points better than Jerrika Wendt of Jerry's Kids.

In the Black Widow Division, Jerry's Shooters have a 52-49 lead over Squeeze play. Don Allred of Good Guys & bad Guys lads the 6-7 tier 47-43 over Eric Dereng of Jerry's Shooters. Mike Snoddy of Cues Yer Daddy has a 38-30 lead over Robert Bogue of Jerry's Shooters. Caren Adkins of The Spoke and Rachel Hurt of Cues Yer Daddy are tied with 27 points for the 2-3 tier lead.

In the Comstock Division, Twisted Stix With Attitudes has a 1054-1039 lead over Yabba Dabba Cue. Don Allred of Rack Busters leads the 6-9 tier with 41 points, nine better than Chris Wood of the Rattlers. Jeff Cordova of All Work & No Play has a 40-35 lead over Christopher Skelley of Dean's Machine for the 4-5 tier lead. Caren Adkins of Tied & Soldiered leads Chuck Baldauska of 9-Spoke by 10 points (36-26) in the 1-3 tier.

In the Highway 50 Division, Dayton Inn leads O.G. Squeeze 61-56. Bill Howard of the VC Miners leads the 6-7 tier with 10 points, while Dayton Inn teammates Shawn Wilson and James Fowler top the 4-5 tier with 37 and 24 points, respectively. Robert Stout of OG Squeeze is tied with Derek Sheldon of Pocket Puppies for the tier 2-3 lead.
