Uncle charged in teen's drinking death

A murder charge has been filed against the uncle of a 14-year-old Sun Valley boy who died after drinking lethal amounts of alcohol while camping with family at Lake Lahontan.

The criminal complaint filed Wednesday in Walker River Justice Court, charges Jeffrey Alan McCarthy with second-degree murder in the Fourth of July-weekend death of his nephew Kyle Johnston.

"Defendant did give away or provide a lethal quantity of alcohol to Kyle Johnston, the ingestion of which caused the death of Kyle Johnston of alcohol poisoning," read the complaint.

Kyle was camping with McCarthy when he was found unresponsive on July 3.

He was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center where he was "placed on life support and ultimately pronounced dead on July 4.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, Kyle's blood alcohol content was .40.
