PREP ROUNDUP: Tigers get easy win on road

RENO - While the Douglas boys' basketball team has enjoyed an extremely successful season, the team has been lacking a decisive road win.

With a schedule oddly front-loaded with home dates, all four of Douglas' losses on the season have come on the road.

The team also struggled with Wooster and North Valleys, to some extent, on the road.

That all changed Tuesday night as Douglas rolled over Reno 61-28 to pick up its first regular season win over the Huskies in at least eight years.

"Reno is a tough place to play," Douglas coach Corey Thacker said. "To come out on the road and pick up a win against a team like that is big.

"We've been talking all year about coming out with energy on the road. No matter what they did, we wanted to come out, execute and set the tone."

The Tigers shut Reno out over the final 12 minutes of the game, using a 26-0 run to put the Huskies away.

Reno jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, but Douglas quickly cut it back down with a spark from its bench.

Jorey Scott had three points during a 10-1 that set Douglas in front 12-8. Nick Maestretti had a breakaway layup during the run and Garrett Getty hit a 3-pointer to seal the run.

Maestretti had a pair of key baskets during an 11-0 run to open the second quarter and Chris Downs nailed a timely 3-pointer helping to push the Tiger lead to 23-10

Getty had 10 points while Maestretti and Scott each finished with eight.

Reno cut the score back to 27-20 heading into halftime after outscoring Douglas 10-4 in the final five minutes of the second quarter.

Douglas worked up a 10-point lead early in the fourth, which Reno cut back to seven on a 3-pointer with 3:47 remaining in the third.

It would prove to be the Huskies' last points of any kind on the night.

Scott had a pair of buckets and a free throw and Austin Neddenriep added a nice reverse layup to make up a 7-0 closing out the quarter.

Douglas stretched the run to 26-0 while outscoring Reno 19-0 in the fourth.

"Team defense will win any game," Thacker said. "It was a case of everyone playing like they were supposed to."

Hunter Myers led Douglas with 12 points. Matt Thomas,Neddenriep and Theo Denson each had four, Downs and Jake Tessmann each finished with three and Connor Hughes, Kameron Van Winkle and Matt Wylie each had two. Trevor Shaffer added a free throw as every player on Douglas' roster put points on the board.

DOUGLAS FALLS TO RENO

Douglas fell to Reno 61-39 Tuesday night in Reno.

The Huskies jumped out to a 26-11 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

The Tigers managed a nice 11-0 run near the end of the third quarter with seven points coming from Ebony Cleveland and Diana Regalada and Alex Laing accounting for two each.

While the run cut the score to 47-31, Reno pushed ahead in the fourth with a 10-0 run to pull away for good.

SILVER STAGE EDGES

DAYTON

DAYTON - Silver Stage drained four key free throws in the fourth quarter to edge Dayton 26-24 in a Lahontan League battle Tuesday night.

Dayton scored just two points in the final quarter, both coming at the line. The Dust Devils held a 24-22 lead until Silver Stage decided the outcome at the line.

"We played them pretty tough at first," Dayton coach Cliff Serawop said. "We pressured them."

Dayton led 22-19 after three, but went cold in the final eight minutes.

Amber Brooks led Dayton with five points while Gabbie Garrett led Silver Stage with eight.

JV BASKETBALL

CARSON LOSES THRILLER

Spanish Springs outlasted Carson 45-40 in a Northern 4A JV boys game in Carson Tuesday night.

Rafe King led Carson with 11 points, while Jay Lanuza added 10. Bruce McIntosh finished with nine and Tommy Champion eight.
