Carson company completes safety training

American Building Company West Division has completed the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program. Only 17 Nevada employers currently hold SHARP status.

The Safety Consultation and Training Section of the state Division of Industrial Relations recognized the company last week.

"This is a great honor for our company," said Tony Norris, production manager for American Building Company. "We believe that our people are our greatest asset."

The no-cost SHARP program is designed to help employers develop and implement effective safety and health programs.

Americans Buildings Company West Division has been located in Carson City since 1978. In 2007, the company was acquired by NUCOR Corp., a Fortune 500 company based in Charlotte, N.C., to add to their steel products divisions.

Commerce Department indicators

Construction spending in December 2010 was $787.9 billion, 2.5 percent below November 2010 and 6.4 percent below December 2009. The annual value of construction for the full year 2010 was $814.2 billion, 10.3 percent below 2009.

Bank reports 2% boost in earnings

El Dorado Savings Bank based in Placerville, Calif., reported after-tax earnings for 2010 of $10.9 million, representing a 2 percent increase over 2009.

In addition, El Dorado completed its 22nd consecutive year without any foreclosed property on the books.

"We are very pleased with the strong performance of the bank, especially considering the challenging economic environment and weak real estate market," said Chairman and CEO Thomas C. Meuser.

El Dorado ended the year with assets of $1.65 billion, essentially the same as year-end 2009. Savings deposits rose by $42.7 million, or 3 percent, during 2010.

The bank operates 32 branch offices in Northern California and three branches in Northern Nevada, including one in Carson City at 3788 Highway 395 S.
