If the recent Academy Award buzz has inspired you to try your hand at screenwriting, the Brewery Arts Center can help you achieve your dream.

A beginner screenwriting course is being offered for aspiring writers, ages 12 and older, on five consecutive Saturdays, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., starting Feb. 19.

An advanced course will follow each Saturday in April.

The instructor for both courses is Carson City resident Theresa Danna, who has a master's degree in professional writing from University of Southern California and has worked at entertainment companies in Los Angeles, including The Walt Disney Company.

Students in the beginning course will study screenplays of produced movies and learn how to construct a story, develop characters and tell their story through dialog. They will finish the course by writing a treatment of their entire story and selected scenes. Those who continue on to the advanced course will complete their screenplay and learn how to market it.

The cost of each course is $105 or $95 for members of the Brewery Arts Center. Register at breweryarts.org or call 775-883-1976 ext. 112 for more information.
