Carson City's newest cafe and bakery opened for business about two weeks ago.

The Artisan Bakeworks and Cafe, 701 S. Carson St., is open 6 a.m.-

3 p.m. Monday-Saturday. It offers Danish pastries, muffins and Seattle's Best Coffee for breakfast, plus salads, wraps and paninis for lunch. Owner Danny Work said everything is made from scratch daily such as quiches and stuffed croissants.

Work has run the Artisans Cafe inside the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St., since November 2008.

"It's been going pretty good," Work said. "We've increased almost every month and every year."

While the Brewery Arts Center location has an emphasis on lunch, the new Artisan Bakeworks Cafe also will focus on breakfast and fresh pastries.

"It's the same kind of concept of what we're currently doing here inside the Brewery Arts Center, so it's going to be all the same sandwiches and lunch," Work said. "The only thing is we're going to try to incorporate some of the fresh baked breads and pastries. We're still going to have some of the specialty coffee drinks as well."

Work said local artists will hang artwork on the walls inside the new location. There's also a reading corner where customers can buy books.

It's the former location of the City Cafe Bakery, which closed last year.
