Business organization for women hosting event next month

WE of the World's Carson City chapter will celebrate its third anniversary March 10.

The event lasts from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at B'Sghetti's, 318 N.Carson St., and will feature founder Christy Virden. She will discuss tools to help business owners evaluate where they are now, where they want to be in two years and how to reach that goal through developing a niche market.

WE of the World offers annual scholarships, local charity support, monthly networking meetings and a new mentoring program starting this summer, which will pair female high school and college students with business owners and executive management in a job shadowing agenda.

The organization also awarded three $500 scholarships in January.

IHOP giving away pancakes for children's charity

IHOP restaurants nationwide will offer each guest a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes Tuesday in an effort to raise awareness and funds for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

Guests enjoying the free shortstack will be invited to donate to the region's Children's Miracle Network Hospital, which benefits Renown Children's Hospital in Reno.

Carson City's IHOP is at 3883 S. Carson St.

The restaurant chain is hoping to raise $2.3 million this year during the event, up from $2.1 million in 2010.

The event starts at 7 a.m. and ends at 10 p.m.

Economic indicators from the U.S. Department of Commerce

• Sales of new single-family homes in January 2011 were 284,000 at a seasonally-adjusted annual rate, 12.6 percent below the revised December level, and 18.6 percent below their year-ago level.

• New orders for manufactured durable goods in January 2011 increased 2.7 percent, to $200.5 billion. Excluding transportation, new orders fell 3.6 percent. Capital goods shipments decreased 3.5 percent and overall shipments increased 0.3 percent. Inventories increased 0.7 percent in January.

Gardnerville company to be honored at NNDA joint event

The Northern Nevada Development Authority is co-hosting a breakfast meeting, featuring its Export Achievement Certificate Presentation in Minden.

Doors open at 7 a.m. March 30 inside the Carson Valley Inn, 1627 Highway 395 N. A breakfast buffet is included. The event ends at 9 a.m.

Aervoe Industries Inc., will be awarded the certificate. The company recently expanded its manufacturing capabilities. Rich Swanson and Bill Cline of the U.S. Commercial Services office discuss the importance of local companies exporting to the international community.

Marketing and PR group meeting

The Carson Area Marketing & PR Network will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday inside the Business Resource Innovation Center, 108 E. Proctor St. The meeting is free and new members are welcome.

The program will include a presentation by Nevada Air National Guard Public Information Officer April Conway, including her experiences and communication challenges from her recent tour of duty.
