RENO (AP) - Authorities are investigating the suspicious death of a man whose body was found along U.S. Interstate 80 near the point where it crosses the Sierra Nevada west of Truckee, Calif.
Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal says deputies discovered the body Wednesday night while investigating an abandoned vehicle on the eastbound shoulder of I-80 just before the Boreal Ridge Road exit.
Royal says the body was in a creek and had been there several days. A head injury indicates he may have fallen in the water. The victim has not been identified.
Deputies say they found only one set of footprints leading about 75 yards from the car to the body. There are no obvious signs of a homicide. But Royal says they are treating it as a suspicious death and it remains under investigation.
