Jottings: There are too many cigarette-smoking urchins from 10 to 15 years of age. The City Fathers ought to pass a prohibitionary ordinance.

Tom Lovejoy, manufacturer of bogus gold quartz was fined $50 for obtaining money under false pretenses. The Court would not accept any of Tom's quartz in payment of his fine.

120 YEARS AGO

All sorts: Some silver men have purchased silver and made some money, through favorable legislation. The gold men have been doing this for years and it seems to be all right.

70 YEARS AGO

Inauguration: Franklin Delano Roosevelt raised his right hand and solemnly pledged that he will defend the constitution of the United States during the term that will be his third.

50 YEARS AGO

V&T: A decade has passed since the demolition of the V&T Engine shops. Nothing at the 4-acre lot wedged between Stewart and Plaza is left to indicate the home of the V&T Railroad shops. Some pieces were taken to the State Railroad Museum and its stone was shipped to Napa Valley, California.
