Dayton farmers market honors senior nutrition program coupons

The nonprofit Dayton Farmers Market at Community Roots takes place every Thursday from 3-6:30 p.m. this summer, offering organic eggs and vegetables, as well as cherries, berries, nuts, tomatoes and more.

The vendors at the market donate their excess produce to the local food pantry and children's summer programs at the close of the market each Thursday evening. In an added benefit this summer, coupons for the senior farmers market nutrition program for low-income seniors 60 years and older are honored at the market.

Teen interns are working at the farmers market and learning hands-on everything about running a successful farmers market.

"Come on down and check us out; there's always plenty of social adventure going on at our lovely little market," said Community Roots Director Wendy Madson.

The market takes place at Community Roots, located on Highway 50 and 2nd Street in Dayton.
