130 YEARS AGO

A second rover: Regarding the murderer of George Myers, Henry McDonald, who is now being tried in Silver City is a lot like Rover, who murdered Sharp at the Rabbit Hole sulfur mines some years ago. Both murderers were alone with their victims and buried the mutilated remains. At the trial McDonald's veins bulged like small ropes, a fearful storm surged and raged within.

100 YEARS AGO

The Lone Mountain Cemetery is in many respects in a disgraceful condition. The place is covered with litter, fences are down, weeds have grown rank and sagebrush interrupts the paths. It is shabby. The city of the dead grows yearly. The population grows daily. The place should be put in condition and not a shock to the stranger.

70 YEARS AGO

The CCC boys from the state armory convoyed to other camps today. The local ranger station will be without a CCC force until Tuesday when another camp will arrive from California. The CCC boys have been engaged in building a forest service telephone line from Carson to Glenbrook.

50 YEARS AGO

The U.S. Coast Guard today awarded a $140,934 contract to Savini Construction Co., of Carson City to build manned moorings, barracks and facilities at its Lake Tahoe station.

20 YEARS AGO

Malia Lee Winn, 17, is named the first Miss Nevada in more than 40 years from Douglas County.

10 YEARS AGO

Carson officials are planning to clear a route down Curry Street between Koontz Lane and Clearview Drive this summer from it's present, unpaved condition.

• Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
