Friday-Monday

RSVP 4th of July Celebration: Friday-Monday at Mills Park, opening at noon each day. Major carnival rides, games and concessions, arts, crafts, novelties and an assortment of food vendors. Independence Day Steam Up and Civil War commemoration: Saturday-Monday. Nevada State Railroad Museum, 2180 S. Carson St., Carson City. 1905 Virginia & Truckee Railroad (V&T) #25 steam locomotive will pull a passenger train made up of V&T cars more than 100 years old. On Monday, the 1910 McKeen motorcar will operate. Plus 150th anniversary commemoration of the start of the U.S. Civil War includes a tent "city" with members of The Comstock Civil War Re-enactors, who will battle for control of the steam train on runs that start at 11:20 a.m., 2 p.m., and 3:20 p.m. (times subject to change). Other train departures at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Festivities also include vintage music by Chris Bayer and Mr. Spoons; Warren Engine Co. Red, White & Tahoe Blue festivities: Friday-Monday. Incline Village. Includes patriotic chalk-drawing contest, opening ceremonies with a tribute to veterans, doggie dress-up contest, beer tasting and brats, brunch with Shakespeare and firecracker trail trek. Fireworks 9:30 p.m. Monday off Incline Beach.

Toccata Baroque to Broadway: Saturday-Tuesday, Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus launches its 6th Big Blue Summer MusicFest, with works by C.P.E. Bach, Vivaldi, and Barber along with Broadway favorites, spirituals and patriotic songs. Series of concerts are: 7 p.m. July 2 at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, Incline Village; 3 p.m. July 3 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in South Lake Tahoe; 7 p.m. July 5 at St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral in Reno. Downtown Wine Walk: 1-5 p.m. Stroll around Downtown Carson City and enjoy wine tasting with a commemorative wine glass & hors d'oeuvres for $10. Visit the art galleries, gift shops, casinos and restaurants. Purchase your glasses at the Nugget, Cactus Jacks, HorseShoe Club, Carson Jewelry & Loan or Bella Fiore. Turn in your map at the Carson Nugget at 5 p.m. for prizes.

Bake Sale to End Childhood Hunger: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday and Monday, C Street, Virginia City. Cupcakes on the Comstock is having a bake sale, as part of Share Our Strength's Great American Bake Sale, a national campaign that mobilizes Americans to end childhood hunger by holding bake sales in their communities. Annual Kings Beach Fireworks: Deck party celebration at the North Tahoe Events Center, begins at 7 p.m. with fireworks near sunset.

A Patriotic Celebration, 4-6 p.m. at Wingfield Park, 1st St. and Arlington Ave., Reno. The MasterWorks Chorale celebrates America with a presentation of patriotic music.

Pops at the Ranch with the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra, 8-10 p.m. Roberts Z. Hawkins Amphitheater, Bartley Ranch Regional Park. Patriotic music.

Fourth of July

Pops in the Park with Sierra Philharmonic: Mormon Station State Park, Genoa. Entertainment starts at 1:30 p.m. with family fun, auction items, facepainting and music. Philharmonic Pops concert at 4 p.m. KOLO's John Tyson will present the Gettysburg Address.

Genoa Volunteer Fire Department Barbecue: Noon-6 p.m., Genoa. Tickets are $12 each and include half a barbecued chicken, coleslaw, baked potato and dinner roll. 775-782-8696.

Carson Valley Pops Orchestra concert: 12:30 p.m. Heritage Park, Gardnerville. Patriotic music in the park. 267-4148.

Fernley "Let Freedom Ring" Celebration: Parade down Main Street begins at 10 a.m. with other events, including children's games, a car show, live music, food and vendor booths, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Out-of-Town Park. Fireworks will begin at dusk.

Stars Spangled Sparks: 4-11 p.m. Victoriaan Square, Sparks. Family activities in Victorian Square including clowns, balloons and face painters. Live entertainment with Las Vegas Road Show at 5:30 p.m. Air National Guard C-130 fluyover 7:30 p.m. Star Spangled Banner performed by Julia Curtis, 9:30 p.m. Fireworks at 9:45 p.m.
