SPARKS - It was a day that should have been spent inside, but Carson, Reed and Spanish Springs braved the elements for a three-way track meet at Reed.
Reed won both meets. The Raiders had 78 points in the boys meet compared to 61 for Spanish Springs and 47 for Carson. Reed had 74 in the girls' meet, 14 points better than Carson. Spanish Springs was third with 48.
Coach Robert Maw was pleased with distance specialists Alex Drozdoff and Cindy Juchtzer.
Drozdoff cracked the 6-minute barrier (5:58) for the first time in the 1,600 and she won the 3,200 in 12:25, another PR. Juchtzer was fourth in the 1,600 (6:10) and third in the 3,200 (13:13).
Mikaela Ragone PR'd in the shot with a winning effort of 30 feet 6-inches. She was third in the discus at 83-2. Maddi Saarem won the pole vault at 8-feet; Jennifer Van Sickle won the discus with a 93-10 throw; and Josie Daggs was third in the 100 (13.5) and second in the 100 hurdles (17.1).
On the boys' side, Carson got wins from Blake McCoy in the discus (129-3), A.J. Winder in the pole vault (11-6), and Gabe Pongasi in the triple jump (38-0). Pongasi had a PR of 19-3 1/2 in the long jump en route to a second-place finish.
Taylor Bradshaw PR'd in the 200 (23.8) en route to a third-place finish. He was second in the 400 at 52.9. Nathan Hazard was second in the discus (129-1) and third in the shot put (37-11). McCoy was second in the shot at 41 feet. Gunner Harper was second in the 110 high hurdles (18.5) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (49.9).
