The California Sports Car Club is presenting the third annual Open Wheel Festival at Buttonwillow Raceway Saturday and Sunday.

The featured event is the third and fourth rounds of the Pacific Formula 2000. The season is shaping up to be a competitive one pitting 15-year-old Conner Ford from Carson City against veteran Bob Negron from Morgan Hill.

After the first two races, the duo is separated by just six points in the championship standings.

Annual TahNeva track meet today at CHS

The annual TahNeva track meet is scheduled for today at 10 a.m. at Carson High School.

Field events start at 10 and running events begin at 10:30 a.m.

Meet director Robert Maw, the Carson High track coach, said there will be 584 athletes competing.

There are a total of 1,510 entries and 16 schools expected to be in attendance.

Hoop camp set

at Carson Middle

Carson Middle School coaches Doug Whisler and John Paulson are putting on a basketball camp for boys and girls entering 4th through the 9th grades June 6-9.

meeting at CHS

The Carson High Parent-Athlete Night is scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Morse Burley Gymnasium.

Information regarding fall sports signups, eligibility requirements and the school's drug testing policy will be covered. Also there will be a presentation by Dr. Swanson regarding concussion testing and policies. Fall coaches will be available following the meting.

There will be a football parent meeting in the upstairs cafeteria after the meeting.

Dayton athletes

need assistance

Members of the Dayton High wrestling program are trying to raise money in order to attend the Fresno City College Wrestling Camp.

Members of the wrestling team are raising funds by doing yard work, painting fences and any odd jobs that people need. The team needs $3,500 and has raised $1,000 thus far.

The Sierra Youth Football league is holding cheerleading and player signups and a yard sale from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 820 Alder St. in south Carson City.

Twins win twice in CCLL Majors

The Twins topped the Yankees 14-0 and edged the Pirates 4-3 in Carson City Little League Major Division action last week.

In the win over the Pirates, Kyle Glanzman struck out seven and walked two in 4.2 innings of work to get the win over Jesse Lopez, who fanned seven and walked two in 3.2 innings of work. Tez Allen went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs, while Chase Campagni and Patrick Hendrickson each hit a double.

Kyle Krebs led the Pirates, going 3-for-3 with a double, single and homer.

Against the Yankees, Jayden DeJoseph pitched three innings, allowing one hit and striking out five batters. Allen went 2-for-4 and drove in five runs. Gareat Rauh and Hendrickson collected two hits apiece.

Levi Rael singled for the Yankees' only hit.

District L.L. event

back in Carson

Carson City will again host this year's District Little League tournament.

The tournament will start June 29 and run until July 13 at Governors Field.

Pike, Bailey win at

Thunder Canyon

Monica Pike and Shyrl Bailey shot a 60 to win the Thunder Canyon Women's Club 2-person better ball tournament on May 13.

Jane Beckett and Brooke Nielsen shot 61, while Becky Martinelli and Tina Hughs finished third at 62. Kathy Cockerill and Theresa Beggs were fourth with a 64.

On the men's side, Bret Andreas, Mike Schellin, John Anderson and Jordan Anderson shot a 124 to win the Men's Club variable best ball event.

Riley Beckett, Charlie Kilpatrick, Leland Sullivan and Bob Pike were second at 125, and Ron Babey, Paul Lumos, Larry Goodnight and Chuck Griffin were third at 126.

Multi-play tickets on sale at Carson Valley

Carson Valley Golf Club is now selling multi-play tickets and junior passes.

If you're a walker, you can purchase five rounds for $119 and 15 rounds for $329. If you want to ride a cart, five rounds will cost you $179 and 15 rounds will cost you $499.

Juniors, 17 and younger, can play unlimited golf for $99.

Memorial Day golf tourney slated

The Lexi & Colton Remembrance Golf Tournament, honoring two children who were killed in an auto accident in Mound House approximately a month ago, is set for May 28 at Empire Ranch Golf Course.

The tournament is being sponsored by the Carson City Sheriff's Deputy Association and Empire Ranch. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Lexi & Colton Memorial Fund.

Two teams tie for first at Silver Oak

Tom Abbett, Gary Poley, John Scoville and Jim Silsby tied for first with Steve Alcalay, Roger Cartwright and Chris Gottschalk for first place in the Silver Oak Senior Men's scramble event on May 10.

Both teams shot 54, four strokes ahead of the nearest teams.

Terry Thomas, Mel Younker, Danny Jones and Walter Aster shot 58s as did the foursome of Alex Talmant, Tona Smith, Lee Gilmore and Lew Dodgion,

Roland Owings, Dick Green, Tony Barbaria and James Barnett shot a 59.

Junior golf clinics slated for EV

Terry Gingell, the golf coach at Carson High and a PGA Class A Professional, will be hosting summer golf programs at Eagle Valley.

Camp #1: Ages 6-17. Mondays 3:30 to 5 p.m. The first class is May 23 and the last class is Aug. 8. The cost is $135.

Camp #2: 9 to 11 a.m. June 6 to 9.

Camp #3: 9 to11a.m. June 27-30.

Camp #4: 9 to 11a.m July 18-21.

The cost for camps 2 through 4 is $75.

Advanced camps suitable for committed juniors preparing for tournament play or high school teams are also being scheduled. Detailed technique for all aspects of game including on-course instruction.

The advanced camp is Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $135 per person. The first advanced camp is June 20-23 and the second advanced camp is Aug. 1-4.

Elks Lodge hosts

golf tournament

The Tahoe Douglas Elks Lodge 2670 is holding it's annual golf tournament June 18 at Carson Valley Golf Club.

This tournament is open to the pubic. The cost is $65 per person for the four-man scramble format. Price includes green fees, cart, prizes and dinner.
