Prep Roundup: Douglas boys lose

Douglas dropped a 1-0 boys soccer decision to Spanish Springs on the road Friday night. Spanish Springs scored in the sixth minute and was able to hold the Tigers the rest of the game. Douglas had a potential match tying goal called back on an offsides call in the final minute.

Douglas, 2-6-2 plays at Carson on Wednesday.

In JV action, Giovanni Baltazar-Hernandez assisted on goals by Carlos Lopez and Emanuel Montoya to lead the Douglas JV team to a 2-1 win over Spanish Springs.

Douglas is 3-5-2 on the year.

VOLLEYBALL

Yerington sweeps

Yerington continued its quest for another state title with a sweep of Fallon Friday night. The Lions won 25-17, 25-13 and 25-15.

Leading Yerington Makenna Lommori 18 kills, 16 assists, nine digs, two aces; Brooke Aiazzi added 12 kills and 12 digs; Amber Veil added 15 digs; Chloe Dane added three blocks along with Katie Nicholas; and Savena Rogers added 10 assists for Yerington who improved to 22-3 overall.

JV FOOTBALL

Carson pounds Douglas 48-0

Nevin Elliott and Andrew Gutierrez rushed for two touchdowns apiece to lead Carson High's junior varsity football squad to a 48-0 win over arch-rival Douglas Thursday night at Carson.

Elliott carried four times for 100 yards, including scoring runs of 20 and 69 yards. Gutierrez carried nine times for 67 yards, and both of his scores came in the first quarter. He had 64 yards in the first half.

Carson led 28-0 at the half and cruised from there. The Senators finished with 443 yards total offense, 112 through the air by Garrett Schafer and 331 on the ground.

Austin Kiesow finished with 43 yards and a score on 10 carries, while Austin Shaffer had seven carries for 36 yards and a score. Garrett Schafer rushed for a score, while Anthony Estrada carried seven times for 75 yards.

Kyle Denning had three catches for 36 yards, while Austin Shaffer had three grabs for 26 yards.

Cody Cunningham led the defense with 16 tackles, while Andy Cooper added 14 stops. Shaffer had 12 tackles and Gehrig Tucker had six tackles and two recovered fumbles.

JV CROSS COUNTRY

Kinder, Brown lead Carson runners

SPARKS - Dominic Kinder finished fourth overall and Shelby Brown finished fifth overall to lead Carson High at Friday's Reed Invitational.

Kinder covered the 3.1-mile course in 19:10, while Tony Xia was the second Carson placer at 21:05. Bryen Holloway was timed in 21:16.

The boys squad finished seventh overall.

Brown led an incomplete girls squad, finishing fifth overall in 23:02. Lake Shank was timed in 26:08.
