PREPS: Carson girls win big

RENO - Carson High's girls soccer team improved to 11-3 with a 6-0 win over Wooster Tuesday night.

The win keeps Carson solidly in second place behind Douglas and ahead of Manogue heading into the final matches of the season.

Carson hosts Manogue Saturday and Galena Monday.

Kenzie Tillitt scored a hat trick, while Josilyn Daggs, Michelle Sandage and freshman Carla Reyes added one each. Reyes was making her varsity debut and her goal was a diving header, according to coach Randy Roser

Manogue upsets Douglas

Annie Sedgewick scored in the 73rd minute off an assist from Hannah Collins, as Bishop Manogue knocked off previously unbeaten Douglas 1-0.

Bri Randall had six saves in goal, while Aidan Vasquez and Wynne Allen combined for eight saves.

Douglas is 13-1, while Manogue is 9-4-1.

South Tahoe slams Dayton

LAKE TAHOE - Dayton held South Tahoe scoreless for the first seven minutes of the game, but the Vikings scored seven times to end the half en route to a 10-0 victory on Tuesday.

Despite the loss, Dayton remains in the playoff hunt, and coach Jared Miklich subbed freely in an effort to keep his players fresh for upcoming games against Whittell and North Tahoe, two teams he believes the Dust Devils can beat.

"We have to win those two games," he said. "The first seven minutes we got off some shots. They're a really good team."

Carson loses in four to Cougars

SPARKS - Carson lost two games by a wide margin in a four-game setback to Spanish Springs Tuesday night.

Playing mostly reserves in the first game, Carson fell 25-11. The Senators rebounded for a 25-22 victory in Game 2, but lost the last two 14-25 and 23-25.

"Our passing hurt us again," said coach Robert Maw. "We fought really hard and played well as a team."

Courtney Hack had 12 digs and 20 assists, Christa McGahuey had eight kills and five digs, Brooklyn Maw finished with nine digs, Alyson Christl had seven kills, four digs and three blocks, McKenzie Price finished with two kills, five assists and four blocks, and Sarah Lushina had five kills, two aces and four blocks.

Dayton loses in 4

FERNLEY - The Dust Devils dropped two close games en route to a 24-26, 25-17, 16-25 and 23-25 loss to the host Vaqueros.

Madison Foley had four aces, two blocks, four digs and 18 kills to lead the Dust Devils. Taryn Schriner contributed 14 digs, while Cassie Depew added nine kills and six blocks. Erin Edison added six kills and two blocks with Cora Jeffreys dishing out 40 assists with three digs and an ace. Ashley Vickers had six kills and four digs while Alyse Fletcher had five digs.

Douglas swept by Reno

RENO - Reno knocked off the defending champs 25-22, 25-10 and 25-17 to fall to 8-14 overall and 4-8 in league.

Savannah Wood led the Tigers with 12 kills and three blocks, while Shawnee McFadden had four kills and six digs. Hailey Sclafani contributed 25 assists with Jenna Brussard finished with seven kills. Amanda Wartgow had four digs and two blocks while Cassi Uhart had six digs and two kills.

CROSS COUNTRY

Carson girls run well in finale

RENO - Alex Drozdoff finished first as Carson concluded its regular season in a five-way meet with Damonte Ranch, Hug, Reno and North Valleys at Rancho San Rafael, site of the 4A Regionals and NIAA State Meet.

Coach Pete Sinnott said final team scores and times were unavailable for both the boys and girls.

With April Shonnard sidelined with shin splint, Drozdoff took over the No. 1 spot for the Senators. Cindy Juchtzer was the second Carson finisher and Erika Sosa the third one across for CHS. Mallory Wilson and Chelsea Gordon were the fourth and fifth finishers.

On the boys side, Michael Shonnard, Chris Merriner, Dominic Kinder, Tylar Chester and Daniel Jauregui were the top Carson finishers. The team ran without Taylor Bradshaw, who was making up a test.

Carson will be off until the regionals on Oct. 28.
