130 YEARS AGO

The Sacramento Bee says: It was recently announced that Bishop Manogue, lately appointed Bishop of the Grass Valley diocese, has been selected to take charge of a diocese of which Sacramento would be the headquarters. Father Manogue, as most popularly known resided in Virginia City and was good friends with the Mackay family, of bonanza fame, and will soon build an elegant cathedral there.

100 YEARS AGO

Wondering, wondering, a great many people around these parts are wondering what is the trouble with the state bills that have not been allowed or paid for September. It may be that the treasury is a little shy again ... just wondering.

70 YEARS AGO

A woman from Reno was hunting near Minden recently with her luck being mostly bad for the first few hours. Passing through an alfalfa field she noticed the tail of a male pheasant sticking out of the shocks. She decided the tail feathers were better than nothing and in stooping over found a live pheasant at the end of the feathers. She hung on for dear life as the bird flapped its wings, and the feathers gave way and the prize bird went sailing away. A bit wobbly, she was too excited to shoot and let chance slip through her fingers.

50 YEARS AGO

The PTA membership drive is on, according to Mrs. Ledo Buonomici, president of the Carson PTA. "PTA provides opportunities for parents and teachers to work together."

20 YEARS AGO

Controls on residential growth in Carson City are becoming more stringent, but not as tough as the planning commission recommended.

10 YEARS AGO

"C" Hill will get its flag on Sunday. The 1,000-pound, 120-foot by 67-foot flag was the brainchild of Carson residents Dan Mooney and Gilbert Ayarbe.
