April Shonnard recorded the 10th-best time in the history of the Nevada Union Invitational to lead Carson High's cross country team to a second-place finish Saturday afternoon.
Shonnard covered the 3.0-mile course in 19:03. Teammate Alex Drozdoff was seventh in 20:32, Cindy Juchtzer was eighth in 20:41, Erika Sosa was 12th in 21:19 and Chelsea Gordon was 289th in 23:00.
The Carson boys finished in fourth place ovrall.
Michael Shonnard was fifth overall in 17:09, while Taylor Bradshaw was 12th in 17:36. Nick Greene was 16th in 17:42 and Chris Merriner took 32nd in 18:28. Dominic Kinder was 59th in 19:38.
"The girls are coming around," said Carson coach Pete Sinnott. "McQueen has a pretty strong team. We had a faster team time, but they had a faster fifth runner today.
"April ran a really nice race. The time she ran was the fourth-best senior time in history."
