Public input period set for water hearings

With hearings beginning Monday on Southern Nevada Water Authority's application for water rights in eastern Nevada, State Engineer Jason King has set public comment on the plan for Oct. 7.

SNWA has applied to rights to transport millions of gallons of water from northeastern Nevada to the Las Vegas area. Hearings on the controversial proposal are expected to last several weeks.

Verbal comments will be accepted at the Nevada Legislature, the Grant Sawyer office building in Las Vegas and Great Basin College in Ely.

Written comments will be accepted throughDec. 2.

The hearings will be broadcast on the Internet using the legislative website at www.leg.state.nv.us
