RENO - Cristian Hernandez scored four minutes into the second half to give Carson a 1-0 win in the Division I season-opener for both squads Wednesday afternoon.

"The kids played very well," first-year CHS head coach Mehdi Samii said. "We probably had about 60 percent possession in the first half."

Carson was awarded a penalty kick 21 minutes into the match, but failed to convert.

"I thought the ball was over the line, but you have to give the referee the benefit of the doubt," Samii said.

Once Hernandez scored, thanks to assists by Michael Samii and Jon Guevara, coach Sammi said the team went into defensive mode.

"We took our foot off the pedal," Samii said. "I'm not happy about that,. I want us to keep the pressure on. Reno dominated possession after that, but our defense did a fine job perserving the win."

"Daniel Zuber, Robert Abundis and Billy Goulardt as well as Nate King Cruz Kerver Carlos Alvarado and Adam Shoaf did a great job in defense."

Coach Samii also praised the play of Miguel Ortiz, Francisco Barrios and Mario Escalante.

In JV action, Reno came away with a 1-0 win.
