A 61-year-old Fairfield, Calif., woman was killed Friday night in a single-vehicle rollover crash in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 west of Reno, one mile east of the Nevada-California state line.

The accident was reported to the Nevada Highway Patrol at 7:22 p.m.

The preliminary crash investigation shows that a blue 1999 BMW M3 two-door sedan was traveling east in the right lane driven by 63-year-old Cecilio Delacruz with his wife, Evelyn, in the passenger seat.

According to the crash report, the right rear tire blew out, and Delacruz lost control of his vehicle as it entered a broadside skid and traveled toward the center dirt median area, where it rolled over and came to rest on its wheels.

No other vehicles were involved, and although both occupants were restrained and remained inside the vehicle, Cecilio Delacruz escaped injury while his wife was pronounced dead at the scene.

The left lane near the crash site was closed, and both eastbound lanes were intermittently closed while troopers conducted their investigation. Both lanes were reopened by 10:25 p.m.

Trooper Mike Stapleton of the Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating. Witnesses or anyone with information can contact Stapleton by calling 775-689-4623 or emailing mstapledon@dps.state.nv.us regarding case number NHP-120203677.
