Dayton boys lose again

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Things keep getting worse for the Dayton High boys' basketball team.

After a sluggish start, South Tahoe outscored Dayton 32-22 in the middle two quarters to knock off the Dust Devils 63-44 in a 3A crossover game Tuesday night.

"We were concerned about this team," said Tahoe coach Chris Proctor. "We beat them last year in the playoffs and we thought they'd come up here with intensity."

Senior Jacob Stowell led the Vikings with a game-high 19 points.with game high 19 points.

Dayton didn't get to the line at all in the first half, and when it did in the second, the Dust Devils couldn't find the bottom of the net much. They were 2-for-11 shooting at the line compared to South Tahoe's 12 for 17.

Bobby Perez had 13 points on the night for South Tahoe, as did Brandon Cramer. John Cefalu put up eight.

Dylan Taylor led Dayton with 14 points and Cody Yeater added 13.

VARSITY GIRLS

Vikes pound Dayton by 16

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Dayton went on a 15-0 run in the second quarter to take a 13-point lead at the half en route to a 48-32 win over the Dust Devils.

Brooke King's offensive rebound and bucket off the glass sparked the double-digit run by the Vikings. Alisa Caro tied it at 6 with a 15-footer, that was followed by a King steal at 22 seconds. With about five on the clock, King hit a short jumper to give them an 8-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

South Tahoe started the second quarter with a long two-pointer from Bailey David. The baskets kept dropping unanswered until midway through the second quarter when Dayton's Cora Mebius scored their first basket in over six minutes.

Things didn't get any better for the Dust Devils in the second half, who trailed by 20 points in the fourth quarter.

"It was a tough game," said Dayton head coach Cliff Serawop. "The girls came out to play, South Tahoe. I think that physical play shook them (Dayton) out of their game plan."


JV BASKETBALL

Carson girls win

RENO - The Carson girls JV basketball team knocked off Manogue 33-22 Tuesday.

Carson was led by Natali Salas with 12 points. Kayla Aikins added eight points. Gina Peacock added five points. Carson improved to 13-3.

Carson boys edged

RENO - Kyle Denning scored 13 points and Alan Cohen added 10 in the Senators' 58-51 loss to Bishop Manogue.

Chace Baker added nine points and Austin Shaffer eight for Carson.

FRESHMEN BASKETBALL

Carson boys top Manogue

The Carson High freshman boys defeated Manogue 40-34 Tuesday night. Carson was led by Cameron Price with 12 points. Nolan Shine added eight.

Senators win easily

Maddi Preston's 17 points led the Carson freshmen girls to a 34-20 win over Manogue on Tuesday. Michelle Perry added six points. Carson improved to 11-3 with the win.

Dayton girls lose

Dayton's Ashley Morrison scored 11 points, but it wasn't enough to stop South Tahoe from recording a 35-24 win over the Dust Devils. Elvia Diaz chipped in eight points.
