Hundreds come together in downtown Carson for annual Legends of the West event

More than 150 vintage, classic cars, trucks and cycles signed up for this year's Legends of the West in downtown Carson City.

Hundreds of area residents turned out for street food, music and a look at the cars they may have lusted after when they were teenagers.

Maxine Nietz, one of the organizers of the event, said that even the side streets were "jam-packed" with cars and attendees.

She said each vehicle paid $25 to attend and that vendors were also selling T-shirts and other memorabilia to raise money.

The money goes to the Disabled American Veterans Chapters 1 and 7 and Carson City's FISH organization to help the poor.

The event closed off several blocks of Carson Street from Robinson south to Musser.

It was held in conjunction with the annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge sponsored by the Carson City Sheriff's Department.

Nietz said that next year, for the event's 10th anniversary, they may have to ask that the street closures be extended south past the Capitol.

Most of the downtown merchants, she said, participated in the annual event.
