Carson football dinner set

The annual Carson High football kick-off dinner is scheduled for Aug. 11 in the Carson Nugget parking lot at the corner of Carson and Robinson streets.

The event is sponsored by the CHS Senators football boosters and hosted by CHS athletics, the Carson Nugget and Carson City BBQ.

There will be live music and dancing, raffle prizes and the official announcement of the newest members of the CHS Football Hall of Fame. There will be a grand prize drawing for a trip for two to Hawaii.

Tickets are $25.

O'Keefe reaches finals

in national wrestling

Brady O'Keefe, an incoming freshman at Carson High School, earned All-America status with USA Wrestling by reachng the finals of the Cadet/Junior National Greco-Roman tournament in North Dakota recently.

O'Keefe was wrestling as a member of Team Nevada.

O'Keefe's bracket at 132 pounds with five former national champions, but managed to get all the way to the finals before losing.

Tigersharks quartet

swimns well at JOs

Four Carson Tigersharks - Eli Everist, Vanessa Rauch, Danielle Stanka and Brett Kolb - swam well in the Junior Olympics in the Bay Area recently.

The meet was also the swan song for coach Gaby Phalan, who has stepped down as head coach.

Everest, 16, dropped time in five events - three seconds in the 200 back en route to a sixth-place finish (2:45.67); droppd seven seconds in the 800 free (10:19.43); dropped six seconds in th 400 free (4:54.39), dropped 24 seconds off her previous best in the 1500 free (19:29.79) en route to a fifth-place finish. Sh droppd two seconds off her 200 free time (2:20.96).

Rauch, 16, recorded a PR in teh 200 back (2:45.61), dropped three seconds in her 800 free (10:45.11) and dropped 10 seconds off her 1500 time in the 1500 free (20:28.12) en route to a seventh-place finish.

Stanka, 18, finishd fourth in the 800 free. She also dropped nine seconds from her 400 free time (5:14.97) and she dropped a second off her 200 free (2:35.86).

Kolb dropped one second in the 200 free (2:39.92) and 100 back (1:25.03). He also dropped three seconds in the 1500 free (22:35.56).

Zippwald wins event

at Carson Valley

Jack Zippwald shot a net 66 to win the CVGC individual stroke play event on July 29. Augie Martinez and John Carey tied for second with 73s.

Johnston records

ace at E. Valley

Bob Johnston recorded his first-ever hole-in-one when he aced the 152-yard par-3 7th at Eagle Valley-West on July 14.

Johnston used a 7-iron for his ace. The shot was witnessed by Don Christensen.

Foster, Schellin team

up for T. Canyon win

Tim Foster and Kyle Schellin shot a 196 to win Thunder Canyon Men's Club's Desperato event.

The Dodge City Gang flight was won by Alan Tack and Ken Weiderman with a 205, six shots better than Larry Goodnight and Brian Dolton. Terry Gilmartin and Mark Gilmartin won the Clanton Gang flight with a 212, six strokes ahead of Bret Andreas' team. Greg Martinelli and Dennis Balaam won the Dalton Gang flight with a 203, sevn strokes ahead of Bill Harner and Allen Gosselin. Jim and Rowan Colgan won the James Gang flight with a 214. Dick and Jeff Campagni and Bryan Sample and Justin Manfredi were at 216.

• The Thunder Canyon Ladies Club played a Cart-Opposite-Driver event on July 25.

Elaine Westerling, Shirley Westfall, Barbee Waldren and Tina Hughes won with a 134, two strokes ahead of Kathy Cockerill, Margret Van Cleve, Gayle Block and Peggy Wilkinson.

Rogers wins A

flight at Empire

Mike Rogers shot a net 62 to win the A flight for the Empire Ranch Senior Men's Club on July 25. Henry Teague was second with a 62.

Bob Warzynski won B flight wth a 61, while Henry Ortiz was second with a 62. Richard Ziegler edged Ed Cabello 62-655 for the C flight title. while Gary Mick won D flight with a 58, seven shots better than Chris Nenzel.

Spencer, Shabi win

Silver Oak event

Chuck Spencer and James Shabi finished with net 66s to tie for first in the Sunday Men's Club 3 clubs and a putter event on July 22.

Chang Suh was third wth a 67. Ben Bohm and Tyler Roberts tied for the B flight title with 68s. Steven Sturm was third with a 73.
