Two more Western Nevada College baseball players - Zach Hendrix and Tyler Spencer - have signed national letter of intents to attend four-year schools next year.
Hendrix, signed with Kansas State of the Big 12 Conference and sophomore pitcher Spencer will play for the New Mexico Lobos of the Mountain West Conference, according to Coach D.J. Whittemore.
They join infielder Taylor Smart (Tennessee), shortstop Chris Woolley (San Diego), first baseman Alex Schmidt (Washington) and pitcher Andrew Woeck (North Carolina State) as current team members who have signed with NCAA Division I programs. Nine Wildcats have signed with NCAA programs in the previous two seasons.
"Zach is one of the best pure hitters in our program's history, and we're really happy to see him be rewarded for his outstanding season," Whittemore said. "He has carried a huge load for his team."
Spencer opened the season as one of the Wildcats' four starting pitchers and ended the campaign making spot starts and pitching out of the bullpen. He ended the season with a 6-3 record and had a 2.93 earned run average.
"Coach (Jeremy) Beard has done an outstanding job of helping Tyler reach his potential, and that, coupled with Tyler's willingness to listen, learn and work has made him one of the top junior college prospects in the country," Whittemore said.
