About 4,600 NV Energy customers were without service between about 11:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, with some customers not getting power back until 1 p.m., a company spokesman said.

Karl Walquist, the NV Energy spokesman, said the impacted area was in north Carson City on the north and south sides of U.S. Highway 50. The problem stemmed from three circuits fed by the Brunswick Substation in Carson City being locked out, he said. Crews needed to manually switch service to alternate circuits. Walquist said Tuesday that it was due to bird making contact with a transmission line between Carson City and Gardnerville.

The outage comes two days after about 5,900 customers stretching from Carson City to Minden to Glenbrook lost power. The Carson City customers, mostly in the downtown area, were without power for about an hour. Those in Minden-Gardnerville were without for less than 10 minutes. Those in Glenbrook were affected longest and without power for almost 15 minutes longer than those in Carson City.
