Where in Carson City can you find the best pizza? The best beer?

Decide for yourself during the Beer and Pizza Championship, hosted by the Rotary Club of Carson City 5:30 p.m. March 31 at the Carson Mall.

"We decided to make this year's fundraiser a casual and participatory event, and it's for a great cause," said Chas Macquarie, Rotary president. "We'll also be selling raffle tickets for a trip for two to Boston, featuring a visit to the Sam Adams Brewery, along with many historic sites."

Pizzas made by six local restaurants will be matched with beers from six local brewers. Participants will vote for the best of both.

Pizza makers will be Garibaldi's, Little Caesar's, Pizza Factory, Red's Old 395, Round Table and Wally's. Brewers will be BJ's, Buckbean, Great Basin, High Sierra, Knee Deep and Silver Peak.

In celebration of March Madness, the Final Four basketball playoffs will be on televisions set up throughout the mall. Participants will also be able to participate in free-throw shooting contests.

Proceeds will support community organizations such as Friends in Service Helping (FISH), Circles of Support, the Boys & Girls Club, and college scholarships for local students.

Tickets cost $40 each, or four for $130. They may be purchased at the door or in advance by calling 443-3140.
