Roser steps down as CHS soccer coach

Randy Roser's 14-year coaching career with the Carson High boys and girls soccer teams has ended.

Roser, who coached the boys for five years and the girls for nine, turned in his resignation to school officials last week.

Eric Masters, the boys coach, stepped down for personal reasons earlier this year.

The two resignations have left two of the best programs on campus without leaders for the time being. Athletic director Bob Bateman said he's received one inquiry about the boys' job, but nothing on he girls' side as of yet.

Roser helped coach the 1998 boys state champions, and his girls' squads have won five league titles, made the zone finals three times and the state playoffs twice.

Roser said he is stepping down to devote more time to his duties at The Bridge, a local ministry.

"I got into the ministry a couple years ago, and now it's full speed ahead," he said. "The time is not as much as I'd like it to be. Last year was tough. I had to turn some practices over to Cassie (Carter, assistant coach)."

Carter, who helps Roser with his club team, is expecting her first child soon. It's not known whether she would be interested in the job or have time for the job.

Roser said he hasn't recommended anybody for his position, nor has he tried to recruit anybody.

Carson's first preference has always been to have on-campus/in district head coaches, which it has been able to do in nearly all of its varsity sports.

Roser said he knows there are some teaching positions open within the district, and he assumes that the school will look at candidates with coaching backgrounds.

Kelsey Bushman coached the JV team last season, but since Roser is leaving, all assistants have to re-apply for their jobs.
