Rick Riendeau, candidate of District 9 Board of Regents, notified the Secretary of State this week that he must withdraw from the race because of health reasons.
Riendeau's name will still appear on the ballots for the upcoming primary election as they were already printed.
In an email to media organizations in Northern Nevada, Riendeau said, "I am hoping that the newspapers within my district will inform citizens that a vote for 'Old Rick' will be a lost vote. And I'm so sorry."
Early voting for the June 12 primary opens May 26.
