Carson winter sports sign-ups scheduled

Carson High School’s winter sports sign-ups are Oct. 29 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the north foyer.Winter sports include, skiing, frosh, JV and varsity boys and girls basketball, and JV and varsity wrestling.Returning athletes from the fall season will sign up with the coach, while new athletes must bring in their completed sports packet. Physicals are not available at this sign up. All fines and fees must be cleared, and a student body card sticker must be purchased in order to participate in the tryout.Sport packets can be printed out at www.carsonhigh.com under the athletics tab or call 283-1900 for more information. The final day to sign up will be Nov. 7. The tryouts will be held on Nov. 10.Gilmartin, Geiger team up fro victoryTerry Gilmartin and Don Geiger teamed up to win Flight 1 at Thunder Canyon Country Club’s Ned Eyre Invitational.Gilmartin and Geiger had 48 points in the par points match play event. Mike Judge and Norm Deputy were second with a 36, while Bill Stanley and Grant Fahs were third with a 32.Chuck Griffin and Larry Felsina won Flight 2 with 38 points, while John Anderson and Joe Murnin were second with the same score. Fran Menante and John Looney were third with 36. Vern Hamilton and Leroy Bowser won Flight 3 with 47 points, while Larry Greenman and Mike Veatch were second with 35. Householder won Flight B with a 67, seven shots better than Anthony Moore and nine better than Augie Martinez.Milligan, Mick, Allison,Warzynski win flightsBill Milligan shot a net 64 to win the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club stroke play tournament on Sept. 25.Bill Gibson were next in Flight A with 65s. Bill Warzynski won Flight B with a 62, a shot better than Bruce Serpa and two shots better than Richard Schnable. George Allison won Flight C with a 65, besting Ken Cuneo by one stroke and Nils Sharpe by two. Mick won Flight D with a 52, 11 shots better than Don Burge and 14 ahead of Paul Lockwood.Bighorns schedulegolf fundraiserThe Nevada Bighorns baseball program, a non-profit organization, is holding a golf tournament Saturday at Dayton Valley Golf Course.The cost is $85 per golfer and includes 18 holes of golf, riding cart, lunch and a chance to win various prizes. Registration is at 8:45 a.m. with shotgun start at 10 a.m. There will be raffle tickets, mulligans (2 per player) and putting tape available for purchase. Krug, a member at Dayton, used a 7-iron for his historic shot.Tiny Mite Bluebattles to tieThe Carson Tiny Mite Blue Pop Warner team remained undefeated after battling Reno Wolf Pack White to a 24-all tie over the weekend.Zach Guthrie ran for four touchdowns and threw a 30-yard pass to Alex Myrehn. Tyler Lafollette, Jessie Delgado, Wyatt Johnson and Paul Perez blocked well for the locals. Zack Lopez, Brandon Bradley, Eddie Flores, Josiah White and Alex Castilo played well defensively.Carson Middle tops South TahoeThe Carson Middle School seventh and eighth-grade girls basketball teams rolled to easy wins over South Tahoe.Carson won the eighth-grade game 25-15, as Janae Steele scored 13 points and Anna Mercer added six.The seventh-grade squad won 32-11, as Hannah Philippi scored 12, while Dajarrah Navarro, Abbey Paulson and Abby Pradere added six each.
