City and Chamber of Commerce officials gathered at Centennial Park on Tuesday to dedicate new electronic scoreboards for each of the four upper baseball fields.Mayor Bob Crowell said the scoreboards are a much bigger deal than it would appear.“Last year sports tourism generated $16 million in Carson City,” he said.The cost of the scoreboards was split between a $15,000 Nevada Commission on Tourism infrastructure grant and funding from the city’s Question 18 Quality of Life initiative.The total cost of the project was $34,000.The potential for the grant was spotted by Cory White, general manager of Hampton Inns, during a tourism commission meeting. He told his supervisor who told city officials.Parks Planner Vern Krahn applied for and received the grant making the project possible.
