Dayton High closes out the 2012 season with a road game today at Fernley.

Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.

The Dust Devils, 2-6, are coming off a 68-6 spanking of Sparks. Fernley, 6-2 in league and 6-3 overall, made national headlines three weeks ago when it snapped Truckee's 35-game winnng streak.

"We're playing for pride, and when that's all you've got that's all you've got," Dayton coach Rob Turner said. "We'd like to go into the off-season with two straight wins.

"This is kind of a rivalry game for us. I'm looking forward to it. The kids are in a good place right now."

After upsetting Truckee, Fernley went out and lost to Lowry and Fallon.

"They are pretty strong," Turner said. "They are a pretty good team. If we kep the field poition in our favor, we have a pretty goodshot to beat these guys,"

Dayton is minus quarterback Jake Turner and defensive back Jack Phillips. Turner also missed last week's game with a shoulder injury, and Skyler Berntson did a solid job filling in.

"He (Berntson) did pretty well," Turner said. "He is faster than Jake. When we run the toss play and the quarterback is the lead blocker. Jake did pretty well, but Skyler is a little quicker. We kept it really simple last week. We threw time and we had a 22-yard touchdown."

Fernley's offense averages 252 yards and is led by quarterback Skylar Williams, who leads the team in rushing with 550 yards.

"He's a pretty good athlete," Turner said. "They like to run that read (option) game. We've worked on that this week."

Containing any option is difficult with just one week to prepare. It's based on assignment football, and any breakdown can result in a long gain.
