Jazz band joins with singer and poets

Poetry and big band music will be on tap the evening of Sept. 11 at Comma Coffee Courtyard in Carson City.The Mile High Jazz Band will be joined by vocalist Sheryl Adams, along with several poets and readers, for an evening keyed to the theme “Tried and True.”“We will be outside if it’s warm and the weather permits,” said Elinor Bugli, whose husband, David, conducts The Mile High Jazz Band. Admission is $5, but the event is free for those age 18 or younger.Each poem read will be followed by a related big band tune during the event beginning at 8 p.m. The performance is expected to last until 10 p.m. just north of the coffee house, at 312 S. Carson St.Inclement weather would move the performance inside.Plans are to feature award-winning poets and readers Rita Geil, Susan Sara Priest, Amy Roby and others. The trio hail from the Ash Canyon Poets group, said Bugli.
