A 3,454-acre wildfire burning south of Gardnerville has been contained by firefighters a day ahead of schedule.
The Carter Springs fire started 12:30 p.m. Friday and grew in size to more than 3,000 acres by Saturday night.
As of Monday morning, nearly 250 firefighters had a line around 70 percent of the fire, and had stopped its forward progress.
According to the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch, firefighters will continue mopping up and patrolling the fire over the next several days.
There will be some interior torching of unburned fuels, but fire officials say there is no significant threat of the fire rekindling.
As of Monday morning, the fire cost $905,000 to fight. No structures were lost. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
