Getting expired or unused prescription drugs out of the bathroom medicine cabinet and into pill-dumping stations Saturday can keep them from being circulated in area high schools, Partnership Carson City Executive Director Kathy Bartosz said. Those pills, ranging from narcotics to heart medicine for a teenager’s parent or grandparent, can have a street value and be highly addictive.“If grandma or grandpa are suddenly becoming interesting (to your teenager), there could be an issue there,” Bartosz said.Getting the pills off the streets is the goal of Saturday’s Drug Take-Back Day, being put on jointly by the Drug Enforcement Administration and local law enforcement. The Nevada Department of Safety’s Investigation Division says teenagers might try to experiment with such drugs, thinking that since they’re prescribed they can’t be dangerous. But a prescribed narcotic could lead to addiction, and when the drugs from the medicine cabinet are gone the addicted person looks for similar drugs or substitutes. The Investigation Division says that could result in heroin use since heroin can be more available than some prescription drugs.Carson CityIn Carson City, the round-up is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.It will be at all three Save Mart Supermarkets, 3629 N.
