Carson native earns Naval Wings of Gold

Navy Ensign Tyson Roser of Carson City earned the naval aviator Wings of Gold during ceremonies at the Corpus Christi Naval Air Station in Texas, where he completed primary and advanced flight training.

Roser, 26, is stationed at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma, where he will fly the Navy’s E-6B Mercury aircraft supporting the TACAMO mission. A native of Carson City and a licensed commercial pilot, Roser graduated summa cum laude from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Ariz., with a Bachelor of Science degree in aeronautics in spring 2011. He attended the Navy’s Officer Candidate School in Newport, R.I., earning a commission as ensign. Roser graduated rigorous academic and survival training at Pensacola Naval Air Station in Florida before heading to Corpus Christi, where he completed primary flight training with the Rangers of VT-28 and was selected for advanced maritime multi-engine training with the Wise Owls of VT-31.

Roser is a third-generation aviator. His grandfather, Robert Roser of Carson City, who pinned on his grandson’s wings at the March 22 naval ceremony, is a former Civil Air Patrol commander. His uncle, John Roser, is a captain with American Airlines.

Roser’s parents, Randy and Shawnna Roser, founded the Bridge Christian Church in downtown Carson City, where he preaches with his pastor father when on leave from the Navy. His brother, Landon Roser, operates San Rafael Coffee Co. in Carson City.
