The Oasis Academy Bighorns had a big day at the High Sierra Youth League Jamboree on Saturday in Reno. In five games, the Bighorns went 3-2, beating Spanish Springs, Truckee, and South Reno. The two losses came to perennial powerhouse North Tahoe and last year’s champion Northwest Reno.

Midfielder Trent Thorn led the Bighorns in scoring, and defenseman Josh Carter scored his first goal on a coast-to-coast run.

The man-down unit gave up its first goal of the year with two Bighorns serving two penalties in the final seconds of the Spanish Springs game, but they successfully killed all other penalties on the day. Oasis opens the regular season with a home game against Spanish Springs on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Churchill County Regional Fields.
