Humboldt Shredders Thrift Store

The Fallon Humboldt Shredders Thrift Store is open for business at 290 S. Maine St. Hours are Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

April 15-27 sales — all books 10 for $1; all women’s clothing, dishes 50 percent off.

Bagged clothing sales, $4 per plastic shopping bag full of clothing, are available on Saturdays.

The store needs re-sellable furniture, appliances, household items and clothing. For donations or to schedule a free pickup, call 775-217-0086 or 775-423-6140. Drop-offs are made at the store location.

All proceeds help provide services to individuals with developmental disabilities and families in need through community voucher programs.

Community Service Thrift Store

Community Service Thrift Shop, 169 E. Center St., is open 10 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays.

April 15-19 sales — 50 cents for all non-tagged items for anniversary week.

April is our 26th anniversary of volunteering and assisting community members by recycling donations and also providing scholarships for college.

We continue to receive requests for assistance from people of our community. We help with written referrals from county Social Services. Please leave donations of clean, resalable items during store hours. We do not accept beds, bicycles or large appliances due to lack of available space.

Churchill County Democrats

The Churchill County Democrats will hold their regular monthly meeting on April 17 at Jerry’s Restaurant, 1801 W. Williams Ave.

They will be discussing plans for the Rurals Retreat in Fallon on May 11. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

Standing Through the Rain

The Peter Pan charity dance show is April 19-20 in the Churchill County High School Fine Arts Auditorium, presented by Standing Through the Rain. Show times will be 5 p.m. on April 19, 1 and 7 p.m. on April 20.

Tickets, priced at $5, are available at Dairy Queen, Country Health, Louie’s Home Center, Koshinkan Martial Arts School and Standing Through the Rain Foundation.

Standing Through the Rain clothing and gift shop is open at 190 E. Center St. The shop stocks women’s and girls clothing and a nice selection of gift and household items. Money raised will fund other programs at the foundation to help women and girls in our community.

Anyone who would like to donate gently used clothing and household items please may call for a drop off time or set a time to pick your donation up.

ROCCC meeting

Restore Our College Campus Committee (ROCCC) meeting is April 22 at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 55 W. Williams Ave.

Dog obedience

Dog Obedience Class — Join Judy for formal training sessions and build a better relationship with your dog.

The next session is April 25–May 30. Classes will help problem areas and will be key to teach the commands needed to have a well-trained dog. Beginner and Intermediate classes available.

Price is $60, some discounts available. (Classes taught at the Multi-Purpose Building for this session at the Churchill County Fairgrounds.)

St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Blood Drive hosted by the Knights of Columbus is April 20.

Visit the Prom Closet at Stuf ‘n Such “The Store” for your prom night apparel through April 26. If you find a dress or tux/suit, it’s FREE. Our requirements are that you must show your current school ID card and be with your parent/guardian when you visit.

Grad Night rummage sale

Rummage sale May 4 from 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at Louie’s Home Center parking lot. Donated items are needed to sell.

American Legion

Dinners — The American Legion at 90 N. Ada St., serves Friday night dinners.

On the first Friday each month the Sons of the American Legion has a fish fry including Alaskan cod.

The second Friday includes Bubba Burgers and all the fixings.

The third Friday dinners have been cancelled until further notice.

The fourth and fifth Fridays are steak dinners. We are open to the public.

Street tacos, $1 each or four for $3, are served on Thursdays.

Lunch — Served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

On the fourth Thursday of each month the Legion serves a prime rib sandwich and fixings.

Open to the public. We ask for a $5 donation.

Breakfast is served the second Sunday every month from 8:30-10:30 a.m.

Lahontan Garden Club

The Lahontan Garden Club meets the third Monday each month January through October at 1 p.m.

The Garden Club discusses the challenges of growing vegetables and flowers in our local area.

The Oasis Squares, Fallon’s square dance club meets every Friday evening, 7-9 p.m., at Highland Estates, 570 N. Sherman St.

Marine Corps League

The High Desert Detachment of the Marine Corps League meets the second Saturday each month at noon at the VFW Hall, 405 S. Maine St.

The League is open to all Marines, active, reserve, retired or honorably discharged), FMF Corpsman, families and friends, to participate in programs designed to help the community.

Veterans of Foreign Wars

Don’t miss the “Omelet in a Bag Breakfast” the third Saturday each month. Build your own omelet with hash browns, biscuits and gravy and juice.

Flu vaccine

The Community Health Nurse’s office has flu vaccine for children 6 months to 18 years old who do not have insurance coverage for immunizations and those children who are enrolled in the Medicaid or Nevada Check Up programs.

CARE

Churchill County Parks and Recreation (CARE) is offering its CARE after school program for children ages 6-12 for the school year.

Each day includes homework time, a snack, fun and games as well as arts and crafts. The children will also go swimming three days a week at the indoor pool.

Costs are $30 per week or $10 a day for drop-in. We are open on early release days and on teacher workdays. Discounts are available for multiple children and monthly reservations.

Nonprofit store for youth

Thrifty Finds is a nonprofit store supporting Churchill County youth located at 920 W. Williams Ave., Ste. 60A. Enter through Louie’s Dollar Plus.

Business hours are Tuesday-Sunday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Closed Mondays.

Donations are accepted on the east side of the building during regular business hours.

Storytime at the library

Churchill County Library conducts Storytime every Tuesday and Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. in the library.

In addition to enjoying a story, children can look at books and magazines or work a puzzle.

Domestic violence support group

Domestic violence and emotional abuse are behaviors used by one person in a relationship to control the other.

Partners may be married or not living together, separated, or dating. Violence takes many forms and can happen all the time or once in a while. Important steps to help yourself or someone you know in preventing, or stopping violence is recognizing the warning signs and by receiving support.

If you want to listen or share, you are encouraged to attend our weekly support group Tuesday from 6:30-8 p.m.

The Fallon Writer’s Group meets the second and fourth Monday each month. Meetings are held starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Senior Center, 310 Court St.

This is an informal group of Fallonites who enjoy all genre of the written word, and an opportunity to join for a fun time of sharing your writing and learning about your personal style of writing.

Fallon Elks Bingo, 93 W. Center St. is the second and fourth Wednesday each month from 6-10 p.m.; games, paper cards, hot ball, progressive blackout.

Holy Trinity Church

Holy Trinity Episcopal Church at 507 Churchill Street, Fallon holds Sunday Service at 10 a.m. with a fellowship hour and refreshments following.

Episcopal Church Women meet Wednesday morning at 10 a.m, and Wednesday night services are at 7 p.m. There is a class on Discipleship following the church service.

Fallon Elks Lodge

Dinner — The Fallon Elks Lodge at 93. W. Center St., serves dinner on the first and third Friday of each month. The first Friday features a fish fry, and the third Friday night dinner varies.

Dinners start at 6 p.m. and cost $7 for adults, and $4 for children under 12 years old.

Breakfasts — Breakfast is served on the last Sunday of the month from 8-10 a.m.

Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children under 12. The Elks hall and catering are available for renting.

ESL In-Home program

ESL In-Home Program of Northern Nevada is a not-for-profit organization that provides one-on-one English tutoring at no cost through the help of volunteer tutors.

We have adult students waiting in Fallon who are anxious to learn to speak, read, write, and understand English. We train you at no cost on how to teach English as a Second Language.

Volunteers needed

There are many adults living in Fallon who would like to learn to speak, read, write and understand English.

The ESL In-Home Program of Northern Nevada exists in five counties including Churchill. We need tutors living in Fallon to teach these adults.

We are a volunteer service organization operating on a no-cost-to-student basis, teaching one-on-one. If you are willing to make a difference in your community and help solve the language barrier, please call Donna at 775-246-8765 or 775-888-2021.

We train and provide instructional materials at no charge. Training at your convenience takes one hour. We will match you with an adult near you who is anxious to learn.

Child support enforcement

Child support enforcement services are available through the Churchill County District Attorney’s office. The staff may be able to help establish parentage and help obtain a child support order to include medical support. Pick up an application at the Churchill County Child Support Office at 165 N. Ada St., or visit www.churchillcounty.org and follow the links to the District Attorney’s Child Support Division.

CEDA needs small farms

The Churchill Economic Development Authority (CEDA) is looking for small farms in the area to participate in the Fallon Farmer’s Collaborative.

The network is an association of small farmers who market collaboratively at area farmer’s markets. Market fees and promotional materials are provided by CEDA through a Specialty Crop Block grant through the Nevada Department of Agriculture to assist Fallon small farmers in entering area farmers markets.

Community Service Thrift Shop
