Strutting their stuff, 26 elementary track athletes hit the lanes and pits at the Ed Arciniega Complex on Friday for the annual elementary track meet.
The event, run by the Fallon track program, witnessed the future stars compete in seven disciplines. The athletes ranged from grades third through fifth.
Hailey Guerrero put on a show in the fourth-grade girls division in the 100-meter race winning the overall title with a time of 15.3 seconds. She also won the fourth-grade girls high jump (3 feet, 4 inches), shot put (12-9) and discus (25-11).
Emily Giovanetti took the 400 title with a mark of 1:32 and the 1,600, coming in at 8:59. Chesnee Grant won the long jump with a leap of 8-9.
In the third-grade girls class, Micky McAlexander captured six titles including the 400 (1:25), 1,600 (7:50.8), long (8-5) and high jumps (3-5) and the shot put (13-6) and discus (29-9). Jacilyn Cathey won the 100 (16.29).
In the fifth-grade division, Amanda Peterson swept the meet as she took first in the 100 (18.9), 400 (1:42), 1,600 (10:57.5), long (7-5) and high jumps (3-2), shot put (9-10) and discus (22-3). Charlene Rhodes placed second in the 100 (21.1), long jump (6-10), shot put (8-11) and discus (16-6).
On the boys side, Kenneth Jensen won the 100 over Brenden O’Brien in a close race. Jensen ran the leg in 17.2, while O’Brien came in at 17.4. O’Brien, though, won the 1,600 with a time of 8:16.7.
Colby Sims won the 400 (1:45) and high jump (3-0), while Jensen took first in the long jump (9-9). Myles Lara won the throwing events with a toss of 15-3 in the shot put and a throw of 27-10 in the discus.
In the fourth-grade division, Cole Hamlin won the 100 (16.8) and 400 (1:29), while Josh Evans took the 1,600 (8:11). In the field events, Jayden Wassmuth captured the long (8-6) and high jump (3-4) titles, while Evans took the shot put (16-10) and discus (31-6).
On the fifth-grade track, Thomas Steele won every event. He clocked in at 16.6 in the 100, 1:32 in the 400 and 7:57.5 in the 1,600. In the field events, Steele won the long (9-4) and high jumps (3-0), the shot put (18-6) and discus (46-2).
Fallon boys win Elko invite
The Fallon boys track team dominated the annual Elko Kiwanis Invitational on Saturday.
The Greenwave won with 254 points followed by Spring Creek (116), Elko (108), Battle Mountain (43), White Pine (four) and Wells (one).
The Lady Wave, meanwhile, placed third with 127 points behind Spring Creek (143) and Elko (132).
For the boys, Nick Marsan won the 110- (15.91) and 300-meter (42.25) hurdles and long jump (18-1.5). Nathan Heck, meanwhile, placed third in the 110 and 300.
Trent Tarner also picked up wins in the 100 and 200. Fallon placed first through fourth in the 200 as Cameron Kissick (23.92), Cameron Matzen (24.5) and Dakota Schelling (24.78) placed second through fourth, respectively.
In the field events, Schelling won the shot put (38-9.25), while Heck won the pole vault (12-0). Beau Marshall added a win in the triple jump (38-4.5).
For the Lady Wave, Elena Murray was stellar in the pits with wins in the triple (32-2.5) and long jumps (15-3). She also won the 100 hurdles (16.24).
Kyonna Caillouette and Abigail Belbin placed second (29-2.5) and third (28-9), respectively, in the triple jump.
Maddie Alegre won the pole vault (8-0) and Kelsey Reibsamen placed second (7-6).
