Tickets remain for Marco Calliari’s performance

There are still some tickets available for the performance by the world music ensemble, the Marco Calliari Sextet tomorrow night at the Art Center.

Perfoming a unique fusion of Italian folk music with Pop, Jazz, Flamenco, Reggae, Tarantella and Rock into what he calls “pasta al dente” with a little “grappa” and “la famiglia,” the Quebec-based Calliari is known for high-energy, infectious live shows that have audiences dancing, laughing and singing along.

His most recent album, “Al Faro Est” has been nominated for World Music Album of the Year. For more information you can check out www.marcocalliari.com

Tickets are $17 for CAC members, $20 for non-members and are available at Jeff’s Copy Express, Postage Plus, ITT @ NAS Fallon or by calling Churchill Arts at 423-1440.

Performance will begin at 8 p.m., doors will open at 7 p.m. and there will be a no-host bar. The artists will also conduct a conversation on weaving together various strands of world music at 3:00 p.m. in the Art Center’s bar. The conversation is free and open to the public.

CAC events in May will include a reading by novelist Tupelo Hassman and a performance by Dave Alvin and Friends.

Tupelo Hassman grew up outside Reno and her great debut novel, “Girlchild,” is set in a hard-luck trailer park on the outskirts of Reno. The critically acclaimed book was a New York Times Book Review Editor’s Choice and was also included in NPR’s “10 Books to Help You Recover from a Tense 2012.”

Hassman will read at the Art Center on May 4 and copies of her book will be available for purchase at the reading.

Coming up on May 11 will be a performance by the Grammy Award winning guitarist, singer, songwriter and proponent of Americana music, Dave Alvin and Friends. Over the course of his career and 11 albums, Alvin has established himself as one of the most significant musicians of his generation.

There’s bit quite a bit of interest in this show and it’s likely to sell out so if you’re interested, you should get your tickets early.
