The Historical Society of Dayton Valley will present a series of free lectures at 7 p.m. Thursdays from May 2 through 16 at the Dayton Valley Community Center, 170 Pike St.
May and Ray Walmsley, 1940s graduates of old Dayton High School, will present on May 2. They will be joined by 1950s graduates David Dull and Marius Kendall. The school opened in 1918 as Lyon County High School and featured a gym, chemistry lab, a commercial center with typewriters and classes including shorthand and accounting.
Dayton Justice of the Peace Camille Vecchiarelli will discuss the historic Bluestone Building on May 9. Vecchiarelli is the first woman elected Justice of the Peace in Dayton. Her mother, Lee Sommers, worked to preserve the Old Stone Building, which was renovated in the 1990s.
Dr. Linda Clements will present on the C&C Railroad Depot on May 16. The Historical Society of Dayton Valley works to reconstruct the depot to its original appearance.
Refreshments will be served at each presentation. Admission is free.
