‘Bob’ Upham, age 80, passed away peacefully at home in Fallon, NV, surrounded by family August 3, 2013.

Bob was born April 29, 1933 in Providence, RI to Robert Wayland Upham and Villette White Upham. He was the youngest of four children. He attended Providence Country Day Academy, the University of Maine at Orono, and Oklahoma State University, Stillwater where he met, fell in love, and married his wife of 50 years, Jimmie Vaughan McAninch.

Bob joined the United States Army Medical Service Corps in 1957. He served as a medical entomologist for 22 years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict. Bob retired from the US Army as a Lt Col in 1978.

In 1979 Bob and Jimmie moved their family to Grand Lake Stream, ME, where they resided for 33 years. Bob fished, tied flies, canoed, and enjoyed his dogs. He was a supporting member of the following: Grand Lake Stream Salmon Association, Downeast Lakes Land Trust, Woodie Wheaton Land Trust, Maine Coast Heritage Trust, Natural Resource Council of Maine, St Croix International Waterway Commission, Maine Audubon Society, Princeton Rod & Gun Club, Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, the Friends of Edith Patch, and the Upham Family Society.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Marilyn and Villette.

Bob is survived by his wife, Jimmie Vaughan Upham of Fallon, NV; his daughter, Villette Samantha Thorpe and son-in-law, Mark Thorpe of Britton, MI; his son, James Nelson “Zip” Upham and daughter -in-law, Nancy of Fallon, NV; his daughter, Ada Vaughan Smith and son-in-law, Major Jason Smith, USMC, of Tampa, FL. His two granddaughters, Rachel and Charlotte Thorpe reside in Ann Arbor and Britton, MI. He is also survived by his sister, Marcia Upham Batley of Houston, TX, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
